CFA Exams - Options/distractors are reduced from 4 to 3 (Discussion)

I believe that though the answer options will be reduced from 4 to 3 from 2009 CFA exam onwards. But I think the instructors will bring more complexity in the given number of choices. Now the odds of getting the answer right (33%) is higher; it may have impact on overall passing percentage which tends to increase.

Do you think, is it a wise decision by CFA

In case of fewer answer options, the guess work would be that much easier. I think 4-5 options is the pretty standard format across most of the different kinds of exams.

Yes, you are right rkMittal. The standard practice is to have 4 or more options. But CFA has announced that they plan to have 3 options from next year. It may encourage guessing practice among the learners. Therefore even i don’t completely agree with their decision.

Fewer choices will help those who “game” the exam. Not a good move in my opinion.

I too agree but lets see how CFA Institute plays this 4 to 3 strategy. They surely are smart guys.
